Happy New Year!

January 9, 2010 at 12:22 am (Blogging, Happy, Movies, Vacation)

I know I’m a little late, but it’s still the new year, so the fact that it isn’t the first day of said new year doesn’t matter, right?

Anyway, I have noticed a definite uptick in my blog reader of people who have apparently made it their new year’s resolution to remember their blogs.  And I suppose I could be counted among those.  But at least I have a legit excuse for not writing here more often: I was writing a thesis!  Which is finished!  When I last left you lovely readers, I was still busy working on it, but I can now tell you that, at 41 pages (not counting my epic bibliography), my opus is finished!

In other news, it is a new year, and a scary one at that: graduation is on the horizon!  And on that note, I have started a new blog, which I plan to make available to potential employers to show how amazing I am with social media type things in case I end up wanting to go into that field at some potential point in time.  I mean, I don’t think I’d mind them reading this blog, but it’s not exactly professional…

And I am oddly hype currently, for no explicable reason, so I’m just going to keep jumping from topic to topic, if you don’t mind:

My family and I watched Julie and Julia tonight.  It was cute, but definitely not a great movie.  Meryl Streep and Amy Adams are definitely two of my favorite actresses, and they were the only things keeping the movie watchable.  So watch it if you’re in the mood (and either not hungry or in the process of eating dinner – delicious food is at the heart of this movie!), but don’t have too high of expectations.

In other news, music from the ’40s and ’50s is amazing.

And school starts in a mere three days.  Can’t decide if I’m excited or not.  As a comparison, last semester, I had a grand total of 5 books for all 4 classes I was taking.  This semester, I have at least 20.  Fun times!

And I’m running out of steam.  So a bientot!  No promises of writing here anymore often than last year, but I do promise to maybe possibly update this blog at least one more time in the coming 357 days!

Busy, Busy, Busy

July 28, 2008 at 8:51 pm (Blogging, Concord, Family, Friends, Happy, Movies, Summer, TV, Work)

So my goal of writing once every day (or so) is totally and completely down the drain, so here’s a little recap of everything that has happened in my life since I last posted:

  • Went down to Baltimore again for my grandparents’ 50th anniversary and a family reunion to celebrate it.  Got to see my grandparents’ new condo which is fabulous and beautiful and simply amazing!  I also got to go out and find toys to fill the basement for all my little cousins (5 under the age of 5).
  • Caught cold from one of the aforementioned cousins.  Took an extra day and a half off of work because of it.  Still felt miserable for about a week.  But am all better now!
  • Went to the doctor’s office for an annual check-up.  Got 2 vaccines, on in each arm, which hurt for about 2 days (in addition to my cold of course!).  Had a lovely discussion about how even though my boyfriend and I have been dating for about a year and a half, I have no need for the pill.  To quote my doctor, we are “happy being *pause* companions”.  Shocking, I know!
  • Speaking of el boyo, he is in town visiting for 2 whole weeks (plus a few days!)!!!  So much happiness. 😀
  • Discovered a fairly interesting and not too overbearing feminist site/blog: www.feministing.com thanks to my lovely friend J.
  • Went to my first housewarming (well, apartment-warming, but still…) party for a friend of mine.  Had a blast.  Happy that el boyo, who escorted me, thinks that I have really cool friends.  Watched Fight Club for the first time in forever and still remembered most of it.
  • Spent all of Saturday with el boyo in Boston walking the Freedom Trail, which is very long.  Saw some pretty cool acrobatic street-performers at Faneuil Hall.  Got an awesome hat and wore it around for the rest of the day.  Made mental note to start purchasing and wearing more hats.
  • After walking for 4.5 hours, returned to the Boston Common and joined some friends to watch As You Like It under the stars.  Pretty good performance.  Orlando was played by the male semi-lead in USA’s In Plain Sight.  Didn’t much like him on TV, but he was great on stage!  Didn’t like the beginning or end of the play, but the middle was good fun!  Shocked by the massive amount of people who attended, most of whom probably couldn’t even see the stage (we got there 3 hours before curtain and so got good seats, though inconsiderate idiots in really tall chairs blocked our view of a good portion of the stage since we were sitting on picnic blankets).  Partook of a delightful European-esque picnic for dinner of bread and butter and grapes – yum!  Definitely an experience that should become an annual event.
  • Arranged with my work to take the next two weeks part-time and work at home to maximize my time with el boyo.  Also was offered a job for next summer – and the school year if I so desire, though my being abroad for the first semester will hinder that slightly…  But still, happy day!  The work is occasionally mind-numbingly dull, but the people at work are so wonderful and nice that I can’t gush enough about them!
  • Rediscovered my love of the sound of keys on a keyboard tapping.  Like as I write this.  And this.  And this.  Ok, stopping now.
  • Discovered that I think that I would love to get my Masters in Library Science and work in a library some day since I love working at my local one this summer, both in processing and at the Children’s desk (even though as I rule I generally don’t like children very much…).  Tonight I even helped two people find books (last week I shelved the whole time)!  My memory of my beloved children’s books isn’t as bad as I thought it was.
  • On that note, I discovered that the University of Hawaii offers a program for library science, so I may kill 2 birds with one stone and move down there to get my master’s 😀

There’s probably more that has happened, and there will be more to come.  But for now, ta-ta and au revoir!

  • OOO- I saw Dark Knight!!!  And it was amazing!!!

Blog Directories

July 2, 2007 at 6:30 pm (Blogging)

I was puttering around the internet tonight, and I came across this apparent phenomenom in which people list their blogs in a searchable catalog, and others go through and read them. I knew blogging was a huge thing, but I had never considered that someone else would ever want to read something I wrote in a forum like this. I mean, it really shows the power of the internet and how it connects people who would never, ever have met or connected in their normal lives, yet have somehow forged a connection over the internet. I think its really an interesting phenomenom (side note: every time I type that word, I think it looks like venom. Weird, I know, but I just thought I’d put that out there). So I figured I’d try one out and see what happens. If nothing (which I’m expecting to be honest) then it was an interesting experiment. If I become popular by some weird glitch, then…um…I actually don’t know what I’ll do… My brother would certainly never believe that I’m actually popular somewhere. Well, on second thought, he’d probably believe it on the internet, but he’d use it as further proof that I am totally different from the rest of the family and was obviously adopted from some foreign land. Anyway, wish me luck as I bravely enter the official blogging world (ish…).
